British Sky Broadcasting (BSkyB) is the operator of the UK's largest digital television platform
and a leading broadcaster of sports, movies, entertainment and news. Sky Text is the digital service
offered to BSkyB subscribers to replace conventional analogue TV text services, incorporating advertising
space and easily navigable menu screens. Sky Text content includes TV listings, holiday offers, news,
weather and mobile services.

Sky Text were keen to integrate the provision of flight status information into their existing portfolio but had
rejected a number of solutions due to their particular airport or carrier dependencies.

AirText was selected for its ability to provide a complete flight solution that covered 24 UK airports and around 90% of all UK flights, in
partnership with Sky Text.

The solution designed by AirText needed to incorporate a simple user interface, full request tracking, reporting
features and high-quality flight status information.
|
|
|
After extensive consultation with Sky Text, a mobile originated
service was conceived that would ascertain what flight information was being requested and disseminate the appropriate
content when relevant. This solution is effectively a dialogue service that interrogates the user to identify the
flight number, airport, date of travel and whether the flight is arriving or departing.

The user initiates the dialogue by texting their flight number to 80039; AirText then responds requesting the outstanding information necessary to complete the request:

"I need to know your flight date, UK airport, and if the flight is an arrival or departure.
(e.g. AIRTEXT 12/6/05 MAN ARR)"

Messages sent to the user are dynamically constructed to request the missing pieces of information within their structure. Sky Text launched the service in February 2005 on Page 676 under the heading 'Flight Information'.
